Terms of use
Version 1.0, effective 5 October 2026. Tokenome ("we") publishes several things under different terms. The section that covers what you are using is the one that applies. Plain words first, then the detail.
The short version
- The app is free to use, for work or for yourself, on as many of your own machines as you like.
- You may not resell it, host it for other people, or use it to build a competing product.
- Team is free while it is in beta. We will give at least 30 days notice before any team is charged.
- Nothing you have indexed is ever deleted or locked because of a licence.
1. The Tokenome application
The macOS app, the Linux AppImage and deb packages are licensed, not sold. We grant you a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the application, for personal or commercial purposes, on any number of machines you control, at no charge.
You may not redistribute or resell the application or any part of it; rent, lease or host it as a service for other people; remove or alter any notice in it; or use it to build a product whose substantial purpose is capturing, indexing or searching conversations with AI systems, or linking those conversations to code. You may decompile or reverse engineer the application only so far as that restriction is unenforceable under the law that applies to you.
This covers the application as distributed. It grants no rights in the application's own source beyond what the Business Source License grants in the Python packages it bundles.
2. The Python packages and the Claude Code plugin
The tokenome-ai package and the tokenome-core library it depends
on, and the Claude Code plugin, whether installed from the marketplace or bundled in the
application, are licensed under the Business Source License 1.1, with an Additional Use Grant permitting any production
use other than a competing product, and the Apache License 2.0 as the Change License four years
after each version is first published. The full text ships with those packages and governs them;
nothing here narrows it.
3. The Team server
The Tokenome team server, including the container image published as
ghcr.io/tokenome/tokenome-server, and the billing systems behind it, are
proprietary. Running the team server for your own organisation is permitted while it is in
free beta. Any other use, including offering it to other people, needs a separate written
agreement.
Beta and billing. Team is free while it is in beta, with no key to install and no seat limit. We will tell every team on the beta at least 30 days before we start charging, and the prices are published on the pricing page so you can see today what it would cost later. Billing, when it starts, is annual and invoiced; you will not be charged automatically, and there is no card on file.
If a subscription lapses. Tokenome degrades; it does not break. Search keeps working, everything already shared keeps working, updates to projects you have already shared keep working, and deletes keep working. What pauses is growth: enrolling a new person, and sharing a project for the first time. Both resume the moment a current licence is in place. We never delete your data for a licensing reason, and there is no path in the software that does it. Whatever is paused, the console and the command line say so plainly.
4. Your data
On a single machine, your conversations and the index built from them stay on that machine. We have no account system and receive nothing. On Team, what leaves a laptop is what that person opts in to share, with secrets redacted before it goes, and it goes to a server your organisation runs. We never train on your data. What each part of the product holds is described in the privacy documentation.
5. Trademarks
These terms grant no right to use the Tokenome name or logo, except to state accurately that your work uses Tokenome.
6. No warranty, and liability
The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the maximum extent the law allows, Tokenome is not liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from the software or its use, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only so far as the law permits.
7. Term
These terms apply for as long as you use the software. They end if you breach them; you may end them at any time by deleting your copies. Sections 5, 6 and 8 survive.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts of Massachusetts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
9. Changes
We may change these terms for future versions of the software. The version you installed keeps the terms it shipped under. Material changes affecting Team customers are notified by email at least 30 days beforehand.
